A continuation of last year's Route 66 trip through parts of Oklahoma...

Commerce, Oklahoma

Commerce is most well known for being Mickey Mantle's hometown.  But, there are a few unique places on Route 66.

The Hole in the Wall Conoco Station is a tiny station was built out from the exterior wall of the final building on main street.  It's now a museum and gift shop.

Miami, Oklahoma

Waylan's Ku-Ku Burger is an original fast food chain from the 1960s on the Route.  People say they have wonderful burgers.  For some reason, I tend to eat and am not hungry by the time I get there.  I guess eating there will be on another trip down 66.

The Coleman Theater opened in 1929.  It is still in business and is a beautiful, ornate theater.  Maybe one day I will be around when they are giving tours.

Afton, Oklahoma

The first trip down Route 66 I remember thinking that I have seen the purple mountains majesty above the fruited plain, the amber waves of grain, where the deer and the antelope play, and where the buffalo roam.  Yep, Afton, Oklahoma, is where the buffalo roam.  It is home to the Buffalo Ranch Travel Center convenience store. The owners occasionally keep a buffalo or two on the premises as an homage to its past.

Afton, just like other cities across Route 66 have places restored to resemble what they looked like during the hay day of the Mother Road and they have places that show their age with the vintage signs of an era long ago.
