After breakfast yesterday, Fernando and Stephanie drove us through the Cibola National Forest up to Sandia Crest. The winding road lined with green pines and golden fall trees led us upward to the crest. The crest was a gorgeous outlook at over 10,400 feet looking out on the landscape and the city.
In the evening, we went back out and drove up Old Route 66 in the city. I do not have any pictures to post yet; however, I have to say that Albuquerque made a huge impression on me. They use their location on 66 to its fullest. The neon glows brightly everywhere on the road. There were very few closed businesses on the route, and I did not see any that were boarded up and left vacant for years. The downtown portion was a bustling night club hangout.
Albuquerque made a huge impression even before we drove the route. The highways were clean. Overpasses are painted in bright colors and decorated with gorgeous art work. The city seems to have a huge sense of pride that is not seen in many places.
